SANTIAGO, June 20 (Xinhua) -- At least two people were killed and nine others injured in a head-on collision between two trains in San Bernardo, just outside Santiago, the State Railway Company (EFE) reported Thursday.
Shortly after Wednesday midnight, a test train and a cargo train operated by the private rail company Fepasa collided on the main railway line in San Bernardo, according to EFE.
As a result of the collision, two workers on the cargo train were killed. "Likewise, the staff of the train being tested suffered injuries of varying degrees and are being treated in a healthcare center," said EFE, adding that there were nine people injured with no life risk.
After the accident, Chilean Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications Juan Carlos Munoz told the local press that "we have to determine exactly what the causes are and take corresponding measures." ■
